We QUIT!

WHAT! Not, like, our jobs. I'm talking about Molly Watanabe and myself. She has quit smoking and I have quit Kyle. Actually, I'm quitting all bad things. Why not? If she can quit sucking on those delicious stress relieving candy like sticks of pure bliss then why can't I quit everything bad EXCEPT for that. Smoking is just too hard right now. Let me work on my bad things first. Starting with my soul and working outwards. A choice. That's all it is really.

Moving on [forever] HEY! Tonight we're going out to the water park for the Twentyby3 Fashion Extravaganza. Don't not go. March of DIMES people. There's also going to be a lot of very hot clothing at very nice trunk-show prices. Get there. There's music and shows and and and. Well. I'm going anyway. It's from 7-9pm

Fa-Fa-Fa-FASHION!

What the! Last night? What happened! Lol. It went from a classy pau hana at the Listening Party with Lia Sophia jewelry to crazy crazy crazy. I left my gift bag in the Hanohano room, Flash was drunk by 5:30p, and my boss isn't even in yet. Haw haw.

Listen! The girls have all been talking about doing a private clothing swap for a while now. Just bring the stuff we don't wear and trade it for something we would. Speaking of, why is it that other people's stuff is always more interesting than your own? Haw haw... have you ever peeked through your girlfriend's makeup? How many sparkle creams does someone really need? And why do I always feel like I have to have all of them! Ahhh.

Ok ok ok back to my point. You already know this weekend is the Fashionista's Market. The back to school clearance that's gonna get you some crazy hot designer stuff for really cheap. They moved it to the Japanese Cultural Center where there's WAY more room [no line for the fitting room anymore! woo!] and they have some new samples from Frankie B. Woo! Well also while you're there you can pay $25 for a ticket to their FIRST clothing exchange event. This is gonna be rad. You bring a pile of the clothes you just don't wear anymore and then have lunch [included]. After lunch and whatever complimentary spa service you get ALL the clothes that have been brought-ed will be out for you to take WHATEVER you want! What! For $25 you get to totally refresh your wardrobe.... your life even, haw haw. I'm so excited.

We're still gonna do our private one but I'm really excited for this one. You're gonna LOVE the clothes I been neglecting too. Hella tags hella designers.... dayum.

Friday. FIRST Friday equals...

...fashion!
I'm serious. You thought I was going to say Art Walk didn't you! Well that's totally happening tonight too but I was actually going to mention the new First Fashion Friday kicking off today at noon. Walk over to Aloha Tower and have lunch. they're claiming the re-emergence of style, I'm claiming it's FREE.

Later tonight after you check out all of the galleries (Thirtyninehotel is debuting some killer metro Manila stuff GO THERE) it's best if you wind up at Soundhouse. It's no secret that they are closing down very soon so this is one of the last chances you will have to get down and dirty at the Enterprise dancedancedancefunfun party. It's a crazy good time and you know this. Come as you are. Just wear comfortable shoes.

OH!! AND if you see a tall Chinese guy walking around with a camera on his hat, say hello and introduce yourself to the Internet. He livestreams 24/7 on there. Most of all, show him that Aloha Spirit that you showed me when I first got here that made me never want to leave ever ever not even for vacations. Mahalo!

What I do with my Money. Part 1.

I spend it. All.

So thanks in advance to Kicks/HI and Flip the Bird for yet another frivolous purchase this Saturday.

OH! And thanks to Dan for keeping my face shots at a minimum in the million updates he just did. I know. Hypocrite, right? NO! I've always been the observer, dude. Not the in-your-face-er. THIS is how I like to look.

I love you dude. I love us.

I'm finishing up some work stuff then watching all my cares go away with the sun at the Hanohano room with the UNEXCUSABLYBEENTOOABSENTFROMHAWAII Derin. Happy hump day.

Fa-Fa-Fa-FASHION!

WHAT THE?! SO I totally heard Paula Rath's announcement about the Advertiser's new fasion magazine at the Fashion Incubator waaay back in April. I totally didn't expect to see them launch with the most comprehensive fashion and lifestyle website that Honolulu has ever seen! WOAH. I'm super duper impressed. The site is totally pro both visually and content-wise, which for some reason is a concept lost on some ventures. They've introduced pretty much anything you would be interested in knowing about nightlife as well, which is making me cheese uncontrollably this morning for reals.

LOVE IT!

As for tonight it's First Friday so that means art walk in Chinatown. If you're not over it then I would suggest checking out Tempo Valley at the Hawaii State Art museum and then dancing your ass off later at Sound House for the Enterprise party.

Busy week means un-busy weekend. Ya right! Hello Saturday.

Right THIS second I'm off to tea with the fasion and SMART ladies in Manoa then to indie night tonight at Next Door with the CD-release party of Sattelite Grey. Very much looking forward to this.

As for the past week? The entire set is uploaded. Just want highlights? OK!

Tuesday Stuff like Films and Fashion

So tonight the Honolulu International Film Festival Spring Showcase continues. I used to be a huge fan of Twin Peaks but am not so hot on the horror tip anymore. Sigh. According to Suren in LA:

Inland Empire is Lynch at his best - funny, thoughtful, eerie, beautiful, dark, deeply disturbing, and terrifying in a way that few horror films have ever affected me. The film is a slow burn, taking its time (about 3 hours), leaping through realities and bizarre encounters, continually keeping the audience asking themselves what reality they are experiencing, and what that reality means.

Sounds good. OH! Don't forget the Betsey Johnson fashion show event at Pearl tonight too. Makana is playing! You know how I feel about that.
'FASHION SHOW FOR THE EARTH'
Presented by Aveda Salon & Spa at Ala Moana with Betsey Johnson fashion show to benefit Hawaii Nature Center:
» Place: Pearl Ultralounge, Ala Moana Center Hookipa Terrace
» Time: 7 to 9 p.m. April 24
» Admission: $10 pre-sale at Aveda Salon & Spa; $15 at the door
» Call: 947-6141

F-f-f-f-FASHION Friday.

time for another Urban Pacific. The last one was fantastic. I'm looking forward to the Pau Hana style that's happening this time. Go straight from work to Next Door. Have some special Smart-inis and watch the shows (that start at 5:45pm sharp) and mingle. I'll see you there.

ps: in case you didn't know, the event is crazy fabulous. I have shots from last time here.

Colin's Kicks...

...sent me a text message at 3:42am about two weeks ago.

I miss you Christa. I remember when you first gave me your card at the Wave. I'm growing sunflowers. Want one?

I eagerly responded yes, not sure if it was innuendo or not-- and not even really caring either way. Colin is superfly.

Got this photo-message just now. I am seriously down with this kid people:

Flash in the Honolulu Advertiser today....

Hats off to classic style

By Paula Rath
Advertiser Staff Writer

Flash Hansen shows off his hat collection in his Makiki apartment.

Photos by DEBORAH BOOKER | The Honolulu Advertiser

Flash, as Flash Hansen is known to everyone around town, is an event promoter. He and partner Matty Boy Hazelgrove create events that involve music, dance, imbibing and fashion. Whether in the Hanohano Room or the W, Flash & Matty Boy Presents attract the Islands' most savvy young fashionistas. And they always have a dress code.

So what does Flash wear when he's just being himself? We visited him in his apartment, which he shares with his dogs, Chewy and Nui.

FLASH HANSEN

Age: 32

Neighborhood: Makiki

What’s your personal style?
I’m not cutting-edge by any means and naturally lean toward a more classic, practical look (for someone my age).

Your favorite piece of clothing?
For upscale, probably my nice suits. I wish I could afford more of them! For day I have a pair of blue camo shorts that I could wear every day.

What would we never see you wear?
Sandals of any kind, and anything baggy.

Who is your personal style icon?
I don’t have an icon, but l like the classic old movie-star looks of the ’40s to ’60s.'

What are you willing to pay more for?
“Anything unique, anything! A well-cut and designed suit or the shirt with the perfect cut.”

Your best bargain find?
There have been many, all at Savers, Goodwill, Salvation Army or the military surplus store. A $2 shirt that fits like a $200 shirt is always a treasure. Once I found a sick tie at Wal-Mart for $9. It looks just like a $100 tie. That’s like hitting the jackpot.

What can you never get enough of?
This is a fashion question, right? Well, um, shoes, hats, ties, sunglasses and clean, new, comfy socks.

Where do you shop?
“Depends on how much money I have, ha ha. I used to LOVE the old DKNY. But since they moved they dropped their men’s line. Unbelievable! Their shirt cut fit me the best. Nowadays, Diesel, Armani Exchange, Second Skin and Adasa are great. Shopping on the Mainland is always the best, though. I get so much cool stuff that they don’t even sell in Hawai'i: Ezekiel, WESC, Jedidiah (my new favorite T-shirts), to name a few.

Who cuts your hair?
Renee at Sanctuary Salon, for the last 15 years!

Best thing about being an event producer?
Having an idea or concept, creating and producing it, and seeing everyone stoked on it after all your hard work.

The worst thing about it?
Everybody thinks they are your best friend and want to take advantage of that.

What’s a little-known fact about you?
I was born and raised here. That usually catches people off guard.
